Your safety, health, and well-being are of the utmost importance to us. We understand that there are many concerns around COVID-19 and we want to assure you that we are doing all that we can to protect our residents/employees and prevent the spread of disease. We are committed to doing our part to keep you healthy and will continue to communicate any changes in service to you as quickly as possible.

We are monitoring information from the World Health Organization (WHO), Hawaii State Department of Health and National Institutes of Health for updates. We will continue to be proactive and transparent in our communication to avoid panic, misinformation, and ensure your expectations are managed.

Preventing a pandemic from affecting our building is our job, as well as the job of all our residents/employees, and we thank you all for doing your part in preventing the spread of disease. As most of you know, Hawaii's Governor issued orders this week that require

1. Hawaii residents to stay at home unless they have emergency needs (such as the need to obtain food or urgent medical services, as well as exercise practiced with observance of physical distancing of six feetor more from other people) outside of their home,
2. no physical gatherings (both public and private) other than members of a SINGLE HOUSEHOLD are allowed,
3. parks and beaches are to remain closed,
4. restaurants and other food and beverage establishments are closed (but for grocery stores), and
5. all people arriving in Hawaii to observe a strict quarantine for at least fourteen days (unlike (a) above, no permissible exceptions, other than the need for urgent medical care).

As of today, Hawaii has as many COVID-19 cases on a per capita basis as California

We all need to observe these rules. Additionally, we need to bear in mind that the Kahala Beach community includes an especially high proportion of particularly vulnerable, at-risk people. We do not want to endanger our friends and neighbors.

Thus, we request the following actions on an urgent basis:

1. in the interest of promoting everyone's safety, owners should observe a voluntary moratorium on short-term rentals of their units to visitors coming in from off of the island;
2. should owners not wish to comply with this voluntary moratorium, they must inform any prospective short-term renters of the situation in Hawaii, including the Governor's orders listed in (a)-(e) above, as well as the Kahala Beach closure of its library, exercise room, and pool, and receive a signed acknowledgment back from the prospective renter (a copy of which shall be provided to the Management Office at Kahala Beach in advance of any such rental), which shall include an agreement by the prospective renters that everyone in their party will quarantine themselves fully within that unit (no exceptions as per (a)-(e) above, except with respect to any need to obtain urgent medical care), and acknowledging that no parking pass will be provided to them until the fifteenth day following their arrival; and
3. we also request that owners follow the same requests set forth in (a) and (b) above with respect to any visitors from the mainland planning to come to stay with them in their units. Given what is required in order to make self-quarantine meaningful, this would also mean that the Kahala Beach residents/owners with whom any such out of state guest would be staying would also need to quarantine THEMSELVES for at least fourteen days. That means, everyone resident in the unit in question would need to stay within that unit at all times for fourteen days (no exceptions but for the need to seek urgent medical care). Otherwise, the Governor's quarantine restrictions would be rendered meaningless.

These are critical times for us, given our at-risk community on an island that has only limited medical facilities and no feasible out-of-state alternatives in the event that people become ill. They require exigent measures. We request that you comply with them for the sake of everyone's safety, including your own.
